Final Decision on Class 11 Board Exams to Be Taken Next Year: Shantmanu
The Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department will decide next year whether Class 11 board exams will continue or not, said Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner (Additional Secretary) of Higher Education.
He explained that only a few states in India have board exams for Class 11, and Jammu and Kashmir will review the need for these exams after this year’s academic session ends.
Shantmanu said the Class 11 exams are being held this year because the schedule and preparations were already completed. However, the final decision about future exams will be made only after seeing this year’s results and overall feedback.
He further added that the main reason for introducing board exams in Class 11 was to help students take their studies seriously from the start of higher secondary classes.
According to him, such exams can build discipline among students and prepare them better for the Class 12 board exams.
Currently, the JKBOSE (Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education) is conducting Class 11 board exams under the Uniform Academic Calendar, which follows the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). The results from this year’s exams will help the department decide if these exams should continue in the future.
While some education experts believe the exams help students stay focused, others feel that the policy needs to be reviewed carefully.
The government has also made it clear that no changes will happen this year, and a full review will take place after the ongoing exams are over.
